Transportation Options at Disney World

Disney does provide complimentary transportation across the parks and resorts but there are a few different options considering how you want to get there.

1) Bus All parks & resorts

At a minimum, there will be a bus to get you where you need to go. It definitely beats renting a car and having to deal with parking lots and trams on your vacay. But that is about where my optimism ends.

Side note, I do love the new bus designs so that is fun.

Disney World has A LOT of walking so I understand the need for some to prefer a motorized scooter in the parks. IF you rent your scooter 3rd party (ie not from Disney) then you will have to take it on the bus and through the back door - it’s a thing. Please just rent the scooter from the Disney and leave it in the parks unless you really need the scooter at the resort and are used to driving these things around. It’s harder than it looks.

Side note #2, all strollers must be collapsed before you get on the bus so be prepared. I recommend an extra bag to hold the stuff. Disney can also provide strollers for park use only.

(2)  Boat  MK Resorts, BoardWalk Resorts

There are quite a few lakes sprinkled around Walt Disney World. If your resort is on one of them then there’s a chance that you can boat your way to a park or two.

Magic Kingdom has boat service to/from the Disney’s Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, and Fort Wilderness Resorts. I have timed the MK fireworks on a boat it was fabulous!

The Beach Club, the Yacht Club, BoardWalk Inn, and all of the Dolphin/Swans can take a boat to either Epcot or Hollywood Studios, although walking may be faster.

I personally like to sit in the back and get a little wind in my face along with ventilation.

(3) Monorail  MK Resorts

The monorail is Walt’s classic design and for toddlers and non-city dwellers alike, it’s always fun to ride on an elevated train.

There are two loops - Magic Kingdom and Epcot. The connected resorts are Disney’s Grand Floridian, Polynesian, and Contemporary Resorts.

Be sure to board the RESORT monorail to return home from Magic Kingdom. There’s a separate monorail that only services MK-TTC (transportation & ticket center) for locals or off-site guest that are forced to park in the ginormous parking lot at the TTC. Avoid this.

Note when you monorail to Epcot you will have to transfer at TTC so may run into some morning crowds there.

(4) Disney Skyliner  Various Resorts

The Disney Skyliner is the new gondola systems that provides connection to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

Bonus, you do NOT need to collapse your stroller to ride.

Disney’s Riviera, Art of Animation, Pop Century, and Caribbean Beach Resorts are connected.

The Disney Skyliner does shutdown if lightening is in the area and this is Florida so this does happen often. I also would not recommend if anyone is afraid of heights so check with your travel party.

5) MinnieVan by Lyft All Resorts

It’s back! Lyft provides the app service and Disney - thankfully - provides the drivers and the vehicles.

It’s literally a red SUV with bit white polka-dots that seats up to 6 and also provides 2 adjustable Graco car seats - very handy for young families.

You do have to pay for service but it is a nice convenience for dinner reservations at Disney Springs or a different Resort. It also provides front door service at the parks, including Magic Kingdom.

The drivers are fantastic. I hope that you get Geoff.
